Siemens OpenStage VoIP telephones awarded with Blue Angel
State Secretary Heinen-Esser: "An example for the entire ITC industry"
The telephone innovation from market leader Siemens Enterprise Communications: Open Stage Voice over IP telephones labeled with the Blue Angel, which consume about 50 percent less electric energy than conventional devices. Right on time for the leading IT fair CeBIT, Siemens as the first company ever has been awarded with the Blue Angel “protects the environment” for this.
Ursula Heinen-Esser, parliamentary state secretary in the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, handed over the certificate to the company in its production location in Leipzig today and welcomed this production strategy as trend-setting for the entire information technology industry: "Siemens Enterprise Communications' action is exemplary: significantly more energy-efficient telephones, responsible use of materials, clearly conveyed with the Blue Angel as German environmental protection symbol"
"The Blue Angel is the most significant environmental protection symbol in Germany. 76 per cent of all end-users know it and 39 per cent take it into account when buying. We as the Blue Angel jury see ourselves responsible for establishing the symbol even better for leading products from the technology sector with a high profit for the environment and wish that manufacturers support us by certifying many of their products with the Blue Angel for climate protection", says Dr. Mathias Böttger, Member of the Jury Umweltzeichen.
In the business world those communication systems and telephones are gaining ground which are based on transmitting speech and video via the Internet. They are increasingly replacing analogue or ISDN installations. The open stage VoIP telephones 15, 20 and 40, which support the open SIP standard, have not only received the Blue Angel because of cutting electricity consumption in half. The materials also meet strict requirements regarding the chemicals used. In addition, they bring above-average compatibility with existing data networks, can be updated and offer high speech quality.
As far as Siemens Enterprise Communications managing director Vera Meyer is concerned, sustainability as a reason for buying has been understood on the procurement market: "Green communications is not just an ad hoc relief for the operating costs budget. Customers also opt for our environmentally-friendly solutions because they are concerned about their own enterprise’s sustainability strategy – as every forward-looking company has to."
