Communications Solutions for Not-for-Profit Agencies

On-Line Communications installed a phone system using both voice phones and text phones (Telephone Typewriters, known as TTYs) for the Deaf Society of NSW. We increased the capability of their previous system to enable special features that allow text calls to be transferred to each other and for messages to be left in text phone mailboxes.
Developing systems to work for not-for-profit organisations
Stuart Edge, director for On-Line Communications, helped to develop the system for the Deaf Society, and he says he learnt a lot from the process.
“We learnt through consulting with the people at the Deaf Society, that deaf people need to have the same access to the phone system as hearing people,” he says. “We made this our main focus and we developed the capability of incorporating the use of TTYs to enable equal access of system functionality to all staff.”
